Happy Birthday BlackBerry
« on: January 20, 2015, 12:01:47 PM »

January 19, 1999, a two-way pager company in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, by the name of Research In Motion released its latest model. Launched in Munich, Germany, it featured a monochrome screen, the device could receive push email from a Microsoft Exchange Server using its complementary server software and used the DataTAC network.

The new device even sported a new name, "BlackBerry". The name was coined by the marketing company Lexicon Branding and was chosen due to the resemblance of the keyboard's buttons to that of the drupelets that compose the blackberry fruit.

The rest as they say, is history.

Happy Sweet 16th Birthday to the device that started it all.

We had the 8830 before everyone got switched over to Android or iPhones.

I never used one.  They gave me a flip phone from the 90's.
If you want to worship an orange pile of garbage with a reckless disregard for everything, get on down to Arbys & try our loaded curly fries.

Any Blackberry.

You can now say you know one person. *bows*

I got over the novelty of the iPhone with my 3G S.

IMO its a really good and secure phone. Theyjust went through some years of crappy management decisions that almost ruined the company.

These days that's probably the safest type of phone to have.

Before you, the only person I knew of that had a Blackberry was owebuma. That was good enough for me to never want one.
There were only two options for gender. At last count there are at least 12, according to libs. By that standard, I'm a male lesbian.

In my defense...he uses one of the Government issue style Bold 9900's....I'm at least using one of the modern full touch screen devices with the new OS 10 on It.

I know several people that have owned Blackberrys and loved them. I think Wrectched posted once about how he had a drawer full of them with broken wheels, as he was "hard on the wheel.'

Yeah there seems to be no middle ground with them either you like them or you don't.

My first smartphone was a BlackBerry...I've owned an iPhone and my wife had an Android.

Warts and all BlackBerry is still my phone of choice.
